For many musicians the thought of shipping their prized possession is a true nightmare. However, with the proper precautions, your instrument can have a safe ride through the shipping process. We receive and ship hundreds of instruments a year!

1) Use a box of good condition that is at least 2-3 inches larger in all dimensions than the instrument case.

2) Line the bottom of the box with a layer of styrofoam popcorn.

3) Wrap the case with a layer of bubble wrap and place it on top of the popcorn.

4) Fill the rest of the space with popcorn and bubble wrap. When you seal the box it should be so stuffed that it is difficult to tape up.

5) Your shipping carrier will offer to sell you shipping insurance. Your best and cheapest option is to have separate music instrument insurance that also covers shipping. Purchasing insurance directly from the shipping company and not a 3rd party retailer will give you the best rate if you opt for insurance through the carrier. Hint: Some stores pay a licensing fee for the name of shipping companies but are actually independently owned. Go to a Fedex Office and Print store location to get the best rate on Fedex. If you choose to use UPS, go to a UPS depot or ship center not a UPS store. Our business insurance covers your instrument on its return trip so there is no additional cost when returning your instrument.

6) Always request a signature for delivery.

7) Use ground service if the delivery time is less than 2 days. Ground service can be substantially less costly than air service. Use either overnight or 2nd day air service if the ground option is great than 2 days. Hint: If shipping 2nd day or overnight, the cost of shipping is calculated using actual size of the box. Trim down your box size to get a better rate. Ground service is calculated by weight first and then box size.

8) Include a note in your case with all your contact information and any particular concerns you may have with your instrument.

9) Email us the tracking number. We want to know when you instrument is arriving!
